It seems to me that we can focus on the news of the day: business, immigration, storms, jobs, COVID, civil unrest, or other problems, or we can turn our attention and our affection to loving others, loving God’s creation, and yes, loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind and leaving the problems of this world to His direction.
Tomorrow is Mothers’ Day, a time to honor the moms who nurtured, guided, and prayed for us. They wanted only the best for us, and whether they expressed it well or guided us to become independent on our own, they were appointed by God for the role that is perhaps most important to each of us.
Next week is ascension time for Jesus. He could not have ministered to the world without His ascension to the Father where He serves as our advocate, and where He prepares to rule the world as King of Kings and Lord of Lords one day. Without Ascension, there would be no Pentecost, and the church could not have grown into the worldwide Body of Christ. God’s sovereign plan is perfect.
My Psalm 158
O Lord, our Lord, how marvelous are your works
In all the earth, Your Name in all the universe.
We come in prayerful reverence before Your throne
As we are told to come,
With our failures, our messes, our needs
Which seem so very real to us
Yet so petty in terms of eternity.
We know You hear our prayers, our concerns,
Even the thoughts we cannot express in words,
And You, Abba Father, seek to answer according
To Your will, knowing the final outcomes we cannot see.
Today we bring before You broken marriages in need of Your healing touch..
Holy Spirit, we bring our sick and wounded,
Knowing that You can rebuild and repair.
We bring our concerns about the world torn by bitterness, tensions, wars
When we know You, Heavenly Father,
Sent Your beloved Son to be our Prince of Peace.
These concerns are too big for us, too difficult,
But we know nothing is too difficult for You,
For You are Omniscient, Omnipresent,
Our very present help in times of trouble,
And the One who can calm our souls.
Thank You for being Very God, the Beginning and the End,
The Almighty
And for the promise of Your love for us
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
