My Psalm 179 Thanksgiving
Lord of the Universe, Father who knows us intimately,
I raise my hands in worship this day.
Thank You for Your holiness and sovereignty
Which teaches us to measure our lives,
Discovering anew our intense need for Your guidance
And direction, and correction, and intense sorrow
For our sinfulness and depravity.
You who made heaven and earth,
Who crowned this creation with the beauty of color and design
Who knit together cells and seconds and waves and dewdrops
Who designed us in Your image for Your glory and worship,
Forgive us when we ignore all You have done for us and in us.
Thank You for wanting to draw us to Yourself,
O King of all things, Father, Redeemer, Lord,
Who loves us so much that You care about our affairs
And personally befriend us when we call to You in prayer.
Lord, thank You for sending Jesus, our Advocate
So we can know You, Almighty Lord,
And for the Holy Spirit Who draws us close enough to You
So I can call You Abba, Father, and come to You in prayer.
In this new day, Lord, I praise You for Who You are,
I thank You for loving me enough to want me to come to You.
I thank You for prayer, for knowing You not only tell me to pray,
But You listen, attend, and answer my prayers.
Thank You for Your faithfulness through the ages and
For caring about me right this minute. Such blessings You shower
On me, I am never out of Your reach and Your guiding hand.
I thank You and praise Your Holy Name.
So I boldly thank You for answering prayer yesterday
For Ashley, for Barbara, for Mary, for me
And pray today for continued blessings to me and mine.
I bring before You the needs of our nation,
For we, like those before us who sinned against You,
Deserve Your retribution and judgment
For following Our own way and ignoring Yours.
I pray for forgiveness for following leaders
Who represent depravity and falsehood and
Thwart Your design for truth and disobey
Your commandments with seeming impunity.
Teach us again to uphold all that is good
And righteous, and honorable, and true.
I pray for mercy, for revival, for repentance,
And if need be, for judgment, so that we again
Follow Your commandments and covenants.
I thank You for those who follow Your path,
For those whose testimonies are faithful to Your word,
And serve as examples to me of how to live this life.
I pray for those who suffer persecution this day
Who face death, destruction, and evil intent
Because they profess Your Name before evil men.
Uphold them, martyrs for Your cause,
And give them strength to witness to You
No matter what occurs. Give us that measure of endurance
As well, that we may witness to Your love to the saints.
Encourage us this day in whatever our circumstances
Help us to see Your beauty in creation,
Your signs and wonders
And know with utter assurance
That this is Your world and You reign in us
Who love and seek to serve You this day.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
