Holy Week gives us opportunity to reevaluate our own mortality, to ask ourselves, “What am I doing to advance the cause of Christ?, and to reset priorities. Today’s My Psalm asks God to prepare us to be used to further the kingdom.
For some Christians, perhaps those Christian in Name Only, it means giving up an hour of worship on Easter Sunday and Christmas Eve, no doubt dressed in the latest finery. May they truly hear the Gospel preached and may it awaken stony hearts to put God first in their lives. For others, Easter will mean a feast, perhaps this year even with family and friends denied that privilege for oh, so long. For pastors, musicians, nursery workers, and church leaders, it means preparing for several services to accommodate all who wish to worship the Risen King. For me, it means Good Friday’s agony when we return to the ultimate person who said to the Father, “Use me,” as He became the sacrifice for my sin, past, present, future, and Who endured the shame of the cross so that I might be used of Him.
MY PSALM 338 USE ME
Praise to You, Lord
Mighty among the nations,
Strong against all foes,
Just in all Your ways,
Yet compassionate and loving
Toward Your people.
Your mercy is everlasting
Your presence is ever with us.
You guide our very footsteps
And erect high walls of protection
Around Your people.
Today we ask for Your blessing
As we come before You,
Praying for strength to do Your will,
Praying for compassion for Your saints,
Praying for opportunities to share Your Word,
Praying for blessings as we walk the pathways
You have prepared ahead of time for us to walk.
We pray we may be instruments of peace today
Especially to widows and the fatherless,
And to those abused, forsaken, and without hope.
We pray, Holy Spirit,
For Your guidance to lift them before You
At just the right moment of their need.
Give us the words to say,
Allow us to minister in Your Name.
And we pray protection for those in need of our care,
For those grieving, for those You have sent us
To love in Your Name. Amen.
