My Psalm 504 August 17, 2021 Fall of Afghanistan
Lord, Heavenly Father, Author of history,
We pray this day for mercy
We pray for the people of Afghanistan.
We pray for women and girls,
We pray for Christian saints there,
We pray for justice against oppression
We pray for mercy.
We pray for those who are terrified
And pray you will comfort with Your peace.
Speak to them through Your intervention
In dreams, through believers, by Your still, small voice
Or through Your thunderous and righteous power
As you have with oppressed people in the past.
We pray for mercy for Your church,
For those who know You, for those who have discipled
Others in the faith.
We pray for their strength in facing adversity
We pray You will guard their hearts, their families,
Their homes, their meeting places.
We pray for miracle protection on the lintels of their homes
That the Taliban would pass by, not noticing them.
We pray protection for our soldiers who are in harm’s way.
We pray for Americans trapped in a foreign land.
Give them hope, protection, guidance, strength, and safety.
We pray for our nation, that we may know truth
Wherever it lies, disguised by endless words and excuses.
We pray for guidance, for forgiveness when we have failed.
We pray for our President and those in authority
That they may follow Your principles.
May they fall before You, seeking guidance
Not trusting in their mere musings.
As countries rise and fall in history,
We look for Your guiding hand,
Knowing that putting our faith in horses and chariots
And technology and weapons
Is falsely placed.
Redeem us from selfishness, from arrogance,
From following man’s rule rather than Your guidance.
Show us mercy, even when we break Your covenant
And ignore Your commandments.
You, Who are infinite, timeless, eternal,
Mark our steps so we protect what is righteous,
Deny what is false and ungodly,
And strive to pray revival to our land.
We pray for peace which comes from knowing
We are in Your care
And that Your will is sovereign
In all things.
Maranatha, All praise to Your Name. Amen.
