O Lord Our God, Almighty, Alpha and Omega,
We thank You for being the One we can call on
In all times, in all places, and You still hear us
In grief, in joy, in supplication, in surprises,
For we are made in Your image, and our every breath is given
By Your command and in Your plan for us.
Today we come with thanksgiving
In that truth.
We bring to You our worship
For You are mighty to save, and all powerful
And as near as our latest “Abba, Father” call.
We suffer the cares and concerns of human nature.
Like Paul, we do what we do not wish to do,
We left undone what we should do,
And there is the constant battle against sin.
We look at the inhumanity of some men
And see that we are capable of the same
In thought, word, deed, and action
Yet pride ourselves and shame others for their actions.
You have taught us to love others, even our enemies,
As ourselves, a noble standard we cannot reach
And in our hardened hearts, fail to pray for the oppressors
And barely acknowledge the oppressed.
We are too content, too comfortable with our concerns
To be Your hands and feet to right the wrongs
And fight the battles of injustice and pain of others.
Bow our hearts to Your will.
Help us to see the role You would have us play
Even if we sacrifice our status and bend our stiff necks
In humility and sorrow for those who suffer.
Help us to care, to show others Your plan for their salvation
So that together we can know the joy of Your forgiveness
And welcoming words, “Well done,
Good and faithful servant,” one day.
