My Psalm 509 After September 11th
Our Lord, Master of the Universe,
We come to you with hearts saddened by memories
Which make events seem so very recent.
New wounds scrape the scabs of the old wounds’ scars
As we remember.
Your people remembered Your guidance
Your provision of covenants, prophets, and kings
Who recalled and recounted Your loving provision
As they too wandered in the wilderness.
May we today further resolve
To follow Your guidance and seek Your counsel.
Our nation is searching for answers, mourning
The fact we’ve lost our way too.
We’re mired in uncertainty, plagued by disease,
Hurt by our leaders, confused and in pain.
I’m praying for peace, for comfort, for salve,
For the Balm of Gilead to be spread in our land,
But fully understand we need contrite confession
For our nation’s sin and turning from You.
If You’re sending a message to bring us revival,
We’ll praise You while bending our knees,
As a remnant we worship and sing Hallelujah
That You’re the sovereign over all.
Forgive us, we pray, for allowing false doctrines
To shout out In God We Trust,
For lack of confidence that You rule the universide
And that all things work for the good
Of Your Name.
It is good to remember events of that day
To bring our divided nation together
We pray for strength, resolve, and decisions
That we may live in freedom once more.
