It’s ironic we have “A” National Day of Prayer. For the Christian, every moment of every day is a constant time of prayer. Do you pray at mealtimes? Do you pray at traffic lights? Do you pray when you hear an ambulance pass? Do you pray after hearing despicable acts on TV? Do you pray before church? Do you pray as you send your children or husband out the door? Do you pray during elder and deacon meetings at church? Do you pray as you read scripture, or before you do, or after you do?
Guilty as charged. I agree I sometimes fail to remain constant in prayer. I confess I shortchange my life because I am not always in constant conversation with the God of the universe who loves even me.
Perhaps it is a good thing to have prayer breakfasts today, especially when our leaders profess being open to the idea that God is part of their lives, but I just find it ironic that the other 364 days may be ignored until the annual event returns.
I pray that is not the case. Amen.
