As with yesterday’s post, I consulted my concordance on the topic of peace. The print in my concordance is too small for my damaged eyes to read, so I went to my standby, Google, ans asked: how many Bible references are there dealing with the world PEACE? It took me to this site, and I’m sure I will visit it again. https://www.biblestudytools.com/topical-verses/peace-bible-verses/
This site is wonderful! It lists fifty references to peace, has meme designs for many of them, and offers a convenient spot to “spend a spell” as my sainted grandmother used to say.
In a world which seems chaotic, it’s good to know that the constancy of God’s peace is a dwelling place, a shelter, and a place of solace. How did the angels announce Christ’s birth. How did Paul begin his letter to the Galatians? How did Paul comfort and teach and encourage the Philippians in chapter 4 of his epistle? How many times have you been blessed by the benediction at the end of worship services?
God’s message to us is that even in a world where little peace is found, he gives it abundantly. Many find it in a “quiet time” of prayer, meditation, and scripture reading at an appointed time of the day. Many find it in evening prayer when we turn everything over to the God of the universe and find the Holy Spirit’s peaceful presence. Many find it in a sunrise or sunset or in a beautiful place in nature. The hectic mother finds it when she gazes at her infant, finally at peace, sleeping at last.
For our own mental health and stability, so that we can pass peace on to others, it is good to contemplate this blessing and to remember that God is sovereign, He offers us tall walls of protection, He has provided a Savior for our redemption, and that we can proclaim, “It is well with my soul.” (Horatio G. Spafford, even after suffering loss of his family.)
Especially in Lent, when we are considering our life in the Lord, may “My Psalm 315 Peace” bless you today:
MY PSALM 315 PEACE
Almighty Heavenly Father
This day I praise You for giving me peace.
You have created the universe and all its intricacy
And set it into place for Your honor and glory.
You have sustained and blessed Your creation
Which nurtures and blesses us.
You have provided Your covenant of grace
Which tells us You will be our God
And we in return will be Your people.
You have given us freedom to make choices.
Sometimes we falter, but You direct our paths
When we call upon You to do so.
You provide still calm waters for us,
Places where we feel safe, secure, Under Your watchful eye.
You show us Your tender mercies, day after day
And sometimes we fail to notice that protection.
You bring us pleasure in the simple things:
The smile of a child, the hug of a spouse,
The promise of a cheerful “Good Morning!”
The timing of unexpected blessings.
You heal our diseases, curses of the devil,
And bring us peace from suffering in due time.
You bring us hope in tomorrow,
Promises that You will be with us
Whatever we face in this life.
But most of all, You provide the assurance,
The blessed assurance
That we are Your children,
Heirs of the Kingdom
Through the love You showed
In sending Jesus Christ into our lives.
We thank You, we praise You,
We honor You, we serve You,
We bless You, we worship You,
And give You all the glory
Through Jesus’ Precious Name. Amen.
