My head and my heart know that God is sovereign, that His plan is good, and His will for us personally and as a nation will be fulfilled.
I’ve read the stories of Old Testament nations which refused to worship Him in truth, disobeyed His commandments, made him irrelevant by worshiping other Gods and ignoring His precepts. I’ve read of kings and leaders who put themselves before all else, centralizing their power, issuing edicts and laws and doctrines elevating their own status rather than obeying the Ten Commandments and living justly. I’ve studied those who corrupted their power and provided wealth for themselves at the expense of others, and exulted in their power and sense of authority. I know they are judged, found wanting, and deposed. No one defies God’s holiness and ultimately succeeds. Certainly not in the long run.
Continuing on the present course, I predict the downfall of America as the best example of personal freedom under the law the world has ever seen. The present administration is tearing away the foundation of this land and instigating plans, procedures, and policies attempting to consolidate power belonging only to God. By arrogantly thinking climate change is man’s domain, not God’s, shows folly and insult to the God who made the universe. By ignoring the Ten Commandments, our justice system upon which it has been based for centuries, is in peril.
I’ve read Old Testament stories about God’s people requesting a king like territories and areas around them had, and I know what God said about such a leader. He said they would corrupt people’s lives, take their money, and leave them with little power over their lives. In 1 Samuel 8, God says: , “This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots.12Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.13He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers.14He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants.15He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants.16Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle [2] and donkeys he will take for his own use.17He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.18When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day.”
Limited government keeps the peace and allows personal freedom. Centralized government attempts to rule everyone’s lives, birth to death, morning to night, individuals to groups, and declares itself god. It wield power to dictate. It declares its people subservient and attempts to think for them, all the time relinquishing their ability and power to protest their loss of liberty.
The policies being proposed by the current administration are tightening the noose around our necks. They want to consolidate their absolute control, take over education of our children from birth through university, control energy and food production, barricade access to our government officials by calling them trespassers when their present grievances, use news agencies as propaganda, and regulate health, declare curfews, regulate zoning, centralize transportation, deny attendance to groups, and I fear, regulate the church, charities, agencies of mercy, Christian education, and persecute those who preach and teach truth.
Finally, like conquering kings of old, they change culture, dictate speech, erase culture, control media and entertainment, plunder resources, issue edicts of conformity to their principles in the guise of progressive policy, and disavow people’s rights to live according to their religious, ethnic, and free choices.
They will dismiss free speech, regulating WOKE and counter-culture erasing of our history and practices, lauding diversity standards and applauding deviant sexual orientation in entertainment, language, and public institutions.
They decide who lives, who dies, who enters our country, who gets “paid off” by the government, who can work and who can stay unemployed, even who uses which bathroom.
In a matter of months, our nation has emboldened every sin in the Ten Commandments and made a mockery of American patriotism, heritage, culture, and individual freedom and those of us “deplorables” or those they cannot fool or manipulate. While words say, “unite,” they seek to spew miscommunication, division, and cruel epithets. Up is down and down is up. Truth is lies and lies are truth. Meanwhile, our border is ignored, our cities burn, our court procedures are no longer private, violence is “breaking news,” and conflicting information about COVID continues to add to the mix of fear, confusion, and unrest.
My comfort is eternal, very much mocked right now, but I’m sure will come under government derision when this administration gets around to it. Jeremiah prayed for healing. I pray for healing our nation. Jeremiah 17:14 “Heal me Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for You are the one I praise.” Jesus said, in Matthew 21:22 “Absolutely everything, ranging from small to large, as you make it a part of your believing prayer, gets included as you lay hold of God.” And Psalm 84:11 I pray for our leaders–‘”For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor, no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” And I take comfort that the God of the universe will protect and preserve His people.
Susie Larson in her Blessings for Every Day writes: May you guard your heart from toxic influences. May you cast down every negative defeating thought that sets itself above the knowledge and goodness of God. And may you give the Lord His rightful place in your life, above your fears, above your worries, and above your frustrations. He is God Most High, and when He reigns in your life, you will thrive.” I pray that for each of us in time such as these.
