In this present situation, selling our “forever” home and recognizing that we can’t continue its maintenance, we are once again in transition. The Psalms have been a great comfort as we admit that age is a definite factor in our daily lives, and we need to make wise decisions while we are able.
Psalm 4 has been a comfort to me as my role as homemaker comes to a close. From now on, Ev and I can have meals prepared for us, although it will not be the way we’ll choose, and I will have a housekeeper once a week. He/she will even launder the sheets so we don’t have to! Imagine.
We have passed all the inspections: well, water, septic, roof, appliances, wood destroying organisms, title etc. and are free to close on the 27th. Our goods are packed, far more than we need, our keepsakes have been distributed to family prior to will prescriptions, and all is well. I have pulled my last weed, Ev has trimmed the last bushes, and we’ll never again wrestle with hurricane shutters. We’re even getting rid of our landline’s interruptions during mealtimes. What will our TV do if it doesn’t report “possible scam” or other unwelcome callers. With all the activities at our new place, we’ll watch much less TV and enjoy being with new friends in a lovely setting. We’re excited.
God has been faithful. The last few verses of Psalm 4 read like this: “You have filled my heart with greater joy that when the grain and new wine abound, I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
From the Psalter, 1912, this wonderful interpretation of this Psalm is my song today. May it bless your day too, whatever circumstance you are in. In joyful thanksgiving, B
“On the good and faithful/God has set His love/When they call He sends them/Blessings from above./ Stand in awe, and sin not/Bid your heart be still;/Through the silent watches/Think upon His will.
Lay upon God’s altar/Good and loving deeds/ And in all things trust Him/To supply your needs./Anxious and despairing/Manny walk in night/But to those that fear Him/God will send His light.
In God’s love abiding/I have joy and peace/More than all the wicked/Though their wealth increase./In His care confiding/I will sweetly sleep/ For the Lord, my Savior/ Will in safety keep.” (Public Domain).
