We remember the history of December 7th. D Day, and thank those who served, prayed, waited at home, and suffered loss that day. We know Eisenhower had prepared his resignation letter before beginning this controversial move which saved the world for freedom. We are a thankful people.
Now to the Hallelujahs!
There is nothing quite like a crowd in a full=-to-capacity church singing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, sung with members of the Space Coast Symphony! Equally wonderful was the Brevard Chorale’s presentation of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols. We are blessed to have such great musical programs here in Brevard. Ev and I will attend three more concerts this week : Central Middle School, Eau Galie High School feeder chain, and Heritage High School. Our son and daughter are preparing future musicians to carry the mantle and keep musical excellence growing here.
We need a venue for performing arts here, one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to use, one with flexible seating for crowds of 500 to a thousand people, centrally located in this 72 mile long county. We need rehearsal space for groups. With the huge influx of people moving here, surely there is a need for performance space. What we have is a patchwork of facilities, some of which are outdated, hard for people to maneuver, and poor acoustically.
The message is the important thing! With the ages we welcome God-man, Jesus to live among us, to teach us humility, love, caring, and reverence for God’s laws. He is indeed ‘King of King and Lord of Lords–almighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.’
There is an end date to the chaos we’ve made of this world. One day, everyone, living or dead, will bow to Jesus, either in reverence or fear. There is indeed an Armageddon, and there is indeed an accounting. Anyone who says, “I’ve lived a good life. I’ve been kind. I’m okay with judgment” is a fool. None of us can live up to the Holiness of the creator and sustainer of the universe who had to send His Son from heaven’s realms to be born in a stable, to have His face scratched by straw, and who ultimately gave His life to save mankind. Knowing the story is not anywhere enough. Christ is the Light of the world, this one and the next, and if you think anything less than complete reverence in thought, word, and deed is sufficient, you need to talk to a Christian. Attending a Christmas Eve service, or even a church service every sabbath does not make anyone a Christian unless his or her commitment is for every second of every day on this earth and then eternally in the next life. Talk to a Christian. Get your life in order before there indeed is that moment when every tribe, every nation, every tongue will declare Him Lord of all.
During this Advent season, listen carefully to the words of the carols. He is the true gift and the reason lights glow in His honor. He is the true Light of the world, and our world is just as dark as it was during Roman times. That is because He is the reason for the season.
