I have written almost a hundred, (perhaps more, lost count) poems I call “My Psalms” after the pattern of Scripture. No, mine are not scripture, but through them I express my heartfelt prayers and hope they bless others’ lives as they read my books and blogs at www.bettyjackson.net. This one is called “Come.” It is “My Psalm 157
Psalm 65 says:
“O You who hear prayer, To You all men come.”
So, therefore, I come to You this day
Knowing You hear our prayers.
And, in Your infinite wisdom,
Answer them according to Your will.
I bring to You those who need Your healing touch this day,
Those known to me, and those known only to You.
Those who are discouraged, ill, homeless, suffering, grieving,
And those who, without You in their lives, have no hope.
Use me this day to bring comfort to those in need,
To be an encourager,
To bring peace and love to a hurting world.
Thank You for Your abiding presence.
Thank You for knowing our every need.
Thank You for being the light and hope and joy
This world so needs
And seeks in ways other than turning to You.
Thank You for the privilege of being Your Child,
Thank You that I can call on You Abba, Father,
Lord Jesus, and Precious Holy Spirit,
And that You answer prayer.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
We are to bring every thing to God, Our Father, in prayer. He is interested in what we need each day, how we live our lives, the things which lure us away from complete reliance on Him alone, and our battles against the effects of evil in our world. We can therefore come to Him with all that we need, even the trivial things, and He will powerfully take care of what His will is over both the majors and the minors of what we are facing on a daily basis.
So, He calls us to keep the communication open. He wants to hear about our joys. And even more so, He wants us to approach Him with our difficulties, because it is here that we can gain the surprises and true benefits of knowing Him.
Our prayers are heard, and sometimes in the most miraculous ways. Our testimony will show us things we never thought possible which have occurred because God is the best problem solver of all. He is King of the Universe, the ultimate wisdom, and He knows the end of the story. We are merely tangled in the web of uncertainty and are called to ask Him to show us the way. That’s why we say, when we pray, “Thy will be done,” and then get out of the way to watch what happens. To God be the glory and praise forever.
