Proverbs 3:5 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” We can count on this piece of wisdom because God said it, and if He says it, it is always truth. Its corollary, in Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” *New Living Translation.
Oh, that our teachers, legislators, and business leaders would embrace this meaningful truth. Oh that before we lie down to sleep each night we could turn over all the exigencies of the day, all the problems we are trying, on our own, to solve, all the relational issues we’re having, all the concerns about the future, all the grief we carry, all the grudges we admit we might still harbor–all the junk of everyday living–if we could just drop it all, seek God’s counsel throughout each day, we could avoid so much drama in our lives.
Romans 11: 33-36 KJV reminds us of this truth:
MY PSALM 307 SEEKING WISDOM
Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, Abba, Father,
I pray today for wisdom, Your guidance, Your direction.
Around me I hear constant babble,
Competing voices,
Rabid arguments,
Statements of fools parading as truth.
I need only hear Your still, small voice
As I come to You in prayer.
Proverbs chapter 18 describes the world we live in:
Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire;
he breaks out against all sound judgment.
A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion.
When wickedness comes, contempt comes also,
and with dishonor comes disgrace.
The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters;
the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.
It is not good to be partial to the wicked
or to deprive the righteous of justice.
A fool’s lips walk into a fight,
and his mouth invites a beating.
A fool’s mouth is his ruin,
and his lips are a snare to his soul.
I seek this day to listen to Your advice, Lord.
Give me the insight to bring words
Of peace,
Of love
Of affirmation,
Of encouragement,
Of purity, to every conversation.
With James Chapter 1 I affirm:
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore, put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
And
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
So, Lord, I ask this day that You will blot out
The babble the world says is truth,
And let me bask in Your wisdom,
Seeking You first
In my thoughts,
My actions,
My decisions,
My conversations,
My writing,
And my relationships.
May I be an ambassador for Christ in all things.
