There is no more comforting place in scripture than the Shepherd’s Psalm 23. May it bless your day today, whatever you’re facing, whether sickness, depression, anxiety, loneliness, or every possible need in your life, because it speaks to God’s sovereignty and His constant care.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley the shadow of death
I will fear no evil for You are with me.
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
If you or someone you know doubts the important lesson of this psalm, or does not yet realize the importance of a relationship with the God of the Universe, Creator, Sustainer, Ruler, and Merciful Father, then I urge him or her to continue reading in the Psalms to grasp the fullness, the whole dimension of Who God is. Psalm 25, for instance, directs the seeker to pray this: “Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God, mu Savior, and my hope is in You, all day long.” Pursue your interest in God. Ask a colleague or friend who knows Jesus, and ask him or her to help you on your journey. It is ultimately the answer to man’s seeking peace and grace, and the balance that will change and direct your path on this journey called life. For eternity is a long time, and the right route begins today.
