I know, I know. I’m six days late. The holidays took their toll on us. The family has been sick. It’s humbling to discover yet again that I am a mere mortal, and that tiny viruses can cause such misery. It started as a mere cold. Usually I knock those off in 3 days with Airborne and a little rest and TLC. This one, no way. Two doctor visits, more meds than I can count, at least ten full boxes of tissues (we should own stock), ultimately antibiotics to prevent the pneumonia which was lurking, and finally, today, I can say, we’ve got this thing conquered.
Not to complain too much. When the health professional tells us she’s happy to report that of all the treatment rooms, she finally has someone with a hurt hand instead of this horrid “bug,” I can say that the respiratory therapy and nebulizer and steroids might have been necessary. Yes, I know antibiotics cannot cure viruses, but they might prevent worse things from taking over.
Along with all this, we were to sing in choir, entertain hordes (we canceled what we could), put on a happy face, try to keep from coughing uncontrollably, and carry on our usual activities. Instead, hubby and I tried, unsuccessfully, to get some rest, to comfort each other, and to celebrate our 49th anniversary. Ironic. Last night, the 5th of January, we slept in the same bed, only waking occasionally to cough yet again. Guess a marriage can survive one in the bed, the other on the sofa or sitting upright in the lounge chair.
I love therapy animals. My three cats have been so elevated! they snuggle, ignore the coughs and sneezes, usually, and wander, visiting each of us in turn. They’ve been forgiving when lunch was late, or the box was not pristine, or we ignored play time. Ev and I decided we both needed a mommy.
So, we begin the new year with a little less energy, but high hopes that 2018 will be a time of making America great, and helping us be a blessing to those we love.
