Were I to enumerate the blessings for which I am thankful today, I would be engrossed in my next full-length book manuscript. Chief among them this morning is our lovely daughter, Nancy, who blessed our lives with her birth August 23, 1981. At 3:14 a.m., she graced us with her presence, and life has never been the same, thankfully! She joined her eighteen-month-old brother, Paul in fulfilling my all-time dream to marry well, have beautiful and talented children, and live life for the Lord.
Just after she was born, a priest came into my room. He had just visited the nursery on a call for one of his parishioners, and lovingly stopped to see me to say that our Nancy was the most beautiful porcelain doll of a baby he had ever seen. She was indeed beautiful, and a wonderful addition to our family.
As she grew into her personality, I noticed that few things bothered her. She was interested in everything around her, immediately responded with coos and smiles, and quickly learned to do everything big brother could do. She was our explorer, our climber, and immediately showed her nurturing nature. In a crowded restaurant or at church, she was especially attentive to children, especially babies, and wherever she went, she always carried one of her precious baby dolls on the outing.
In school she was the helper, the one who anticipated others’ needs with compassion and companionship. Her teachers loved Nancy. She was always responsible, caring, and careful with her work. Even today, those traits are in her nature. She accomplishes complicated tasks easily, is organized, and is a superb problem solver. She has her dad’s engineer mind, assembling things, completing puzzles, and seeing intricacies as part of completion of a larger tasks.
She loves nature and God’s creation. She is observant, wants to know, and is eager to share what she sees and hears as part of her wonder about her world.
She is a superb musician, a wonderful cellist, and appreciates art in any form. She loves being part of ensembles, and eagerly teaches students to play with skill and sensitivity. She recognizes students’ personalities and strengths, and focuses on those in her teaching strategies.
Her great joy right now is her love for Kaley and she eagerly awaits the birth of her second niece. She’s an authority on child development. Of all the people in the world who should be a mother, it is Nancy. My sincere prayer continues, that if it is God’s will, she will marry a fine Christian man who will treasure her and together they will establish a home where Christ abounds, where their loving relationship creates beloved children of her own to raise, and that she have the opportunities I’ve enjoyed to see children who rise up and call her blessed.
If, however, God has other plans for her, she stands ready as a wonderfully equipped independent young lady who blesses those around her with her love, care, skill, and attention. She typifies the fruits of the Spirit, lives for her Lord, and I couldn’t be more happy that she celebrates life today on her birthday.
I love you, Nancy.
