Company’s coming. Time to change the winter paintings to spring-summer ones, put out the lighter colored pillows, spruce up the gardens, wash the windows (did I suggest that on our dirt road?), and get ready to entertain this weekend.
Time to spiritually prepare too. This Lenten season has been highlighted by a wonderful booklet provided for our use by Covenant Presbyterian Church, our church home. I have searched my heart, done some meditating and cleaning out the cobwebs, and made some intentional decisions about priorities. With my remaining days, I want to make best use of my time, talents, and abilities to grow closer to the One whose life made such a difference in mine, Jesus Christ, Lord of All.
I’ve just begun another Bible study under Nancy Guthrie. She has devoted herself to tracing Old Testament books through the lens of everything there pointing to Jesus. Just finished her Genesis study, and am beginning the Wisdom books one: Job, Ecclesiastes, Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon, with a wonderful group of women holding ourselves accountable in our walk. Another rich blessing this week was intentional directed prayer by the wives of the elders and deacons as we met together on Monday night. We prayed for protection over our leaders, for our members, for our missions around the world, highlighted recently by visits from our church planters and missionaries from around the globe, and prayed for our new campus meeting in Melbourne Beach.
This weekend we worship the Risen Christ who redeemed us at such a cost. As we learn about the struggles others are overcoming through Christ, may I continue to clean house, recognizing my utter dependence on Him for what really counts. Focus on what’s truly important, get rid of hoarded junk which weighs down a room and the room in my heart as well, and start fresh as springtime to follow hard after Christ.
May this inspire others to do some spring cleaning too.
