Celebrate ’21 Everyone! God’s Got This! is the slogan I adopted for this year. For the most part, thee have been things to celebrate if we look for them. Psalm 103:2-4 says: “Praise the Lord, I tell myself, and never gorget the good things He does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He ransoms me from death and surrounds me with love and tender mercies.!
We have seen a vaccine which effectively cancels the COVID threat we’ve lived under for a year. We’ve seen businesses struggle to open, many with lessons learned about new and innovative ways to thrive even during a pandemic. We’ve seen a beautiful spring with flowers, few terrible storms, and delighted in the rejuvenation of a new season. For our family, the school year is almost over, and none of our three teachers have missed even one day of teaching because of illness. Amazing. Our grandchildren were able to have their dance recital last weekend and look forward to their violin performances this weekend. And finally, yesterday, my furniture arrived. That may be a little ray of sunshine to many, but we ordered our sofa in December, and we now have it as part of our home in late May.
We have much to anticipate and celebrate. God has been faithful and we are thankful to Him for His guidance and for giving us to the patience to endure so we can celebrate ’21 when at the turn of the year, we were threatened.
Does that mean all is well? No, indeed. The political situation is not to our liking, and people are suffering under financial and interpersonal problems, some of them caused by governmental decisions outside our control. We have constant prayer concerns for our nation and the world. But, as in Old Testament times, we know God chooses kings and presidents for His purpose, and we pray for our leaders to have the wisdom of Solomon and the caring of benevolent men and women of God. God’s got this!
