What an incredible day we had yesterday! It was the fifty-sixth year anniversary of our wedding on December 29, 1968. Starting with breakfast at Dottie’s Cafe, we then had a full day of family fun. We took two cars, but enjoyed the gift of conversation between us! What a blessing–together, although in tandem. Paul got to drive his newly purchased car, and as they spotted birds, gators, and beauty, we followed in our car, thanks to Nancy’s driving, and took countless pictures which we’ll treasure.
Where were we? We spent ithe day with family and explored once again the beautiful landscape with its countless birds at the Merritt Island Refuge and then went to the amazing port at Canaveral. We’d never been to that incredible place. Among the ships, yachts, and busyness, we saw the ship where Elon Musk’s team lands the boosters from their rocket launches! The gantry and the “catch” apparatus was sitting on a ship there! We saw a piece of space history! We also enjoyed wonderful lunches at Grills. I highly recommend their beet salad! It’s a favorite of mine at Cheesecake Facroey, but this one has that one beat by a mile. Absolutely delicious. Then we went to Paul and Mary’s, played a game of Five Crowns, and had homemade pizza and an amazing Publix red velvet cake to celebrate our day.
For a while, I’ll be sharing pictures I took, cropped, and saved on my phone’s gallery. We haven’t viewed the ones taken on our “fancy” camera, but the ones I took will decorate my posts for a long time in the future. They how God’s designs in landscaping, the fifty shades of green, the blue sky and cloudy one, and the wide variety of ornithological splendor. Our Kaley loves birds, and she knows every variety of the shore birds there. She especially likes couts and all the varieties of ducks, wading birds, and could spot them before anyone else. Her excitement was legendary.
Emily has a new “smart” watch and could take pictures with it. Although her excitement was a bit muted after a while, the family conversation blessed us as we followed a short distance behind. Such fun that we could listen in to their conversation and participate in it. I’m amazed by the technology we’ve enjoyed in the fifty-six years Ev and I have been partners in our life’s journey. The day was epic, and hubby won the game of Five Crowns. I only laid down two hands the whole game, and they were at the very end. We interrupted the game to have homemade pizza (thanks, Paul, for the wonderful crust and Nancy for the toppings–especially the black olives and mushrooms Mary and I enjoyed, and for the beautiful cake. We had quite the celebration and took time to recount our real day–very different–with snow, sleet, fog, hail, and freezing rain. But, celebration with family made this day of our Lord memorable in a legacy sort of way. We acknowledging that our marriage has surpassed our parents’, grandparents’ and great-grandparents’ marriages in longevity, and we feel highly blessed and thankful to God Who blesses us every day of togetherness.
