Ev and I took our grandchildren to an exciting presentation on Saturday. The topic was Whales and the presenter, known as the Science Guy here at Glenbrooke Senior Living, is a talented local teacher who loves exploring the living creatures in the world. This week’s topic was Whales, and while I thought I was somewhat knowledgeable, I learned as much from our granddaughters as I did from the presenter. They showed such excitement about the topic, and delighted those around us with their knowledge and their intelligent questions. It was a delightful time.
When I opened my desk calendar today, I found another verse, yet again, to encourage me for the day. It is from i John 1:2 in the NLT version. It is a wonderful greeting I share with you today: “Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.” How did we greet the Lord today? Hopefully with, I love You, Lord. Thank You for Your provision for me, and thank you for the strength you give me for this day. I pray you will guide and direct my path and those of my children and grandchildren, my siblings, my friends, and my brothers and sisters in Christ who seed to praise You this day with our lives. Amen.”
Then, I began to proofread my next book, Mom’s Tender Touch. It tied everything together in my worship time as I began the day and remembered the busy weekend.
O Lord, how manifold are your works;
In wisdom have you made them all;
The earth is full of your creatures.
Here is the sea, great and wide,
which teems with creatures innumerable,
living things both small and great.
Psalms 104:24-25
And then, I checked Restore My Soul Psalms, the book I wrote for my Lent study and read this:
MY PSALM 307 SEEKING WISDOM
Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, Abba, Father,
I pray today for wisdom, Your guidance, Your direction.
Around me I hear constant babble,
Competing voices,
Rabid arguments,
Statements of fools parading as truth.
I need only hear Your still, small voice
As I come to You in prayer.
Proverbs chapter 18 describes the world we live in:
Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire;
he breaks out against all sound judgment.
A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion.
When wickedness comes, contempt comes also,
and with dishonor comes disgrace.
The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters;
the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.
It is not good to be partial to the wicked
or to deprive the righteous of justice.
A fool’s lips walk into a fight,
and his mouth invites a beating.
A fool’s mouth is his ruin,
and his lips are a snare to his soul.
I seek this day to listen to Your advice, Lord.
Give me the insight to bring words
Of peace,
Of love
Of affirmation,
Of encouragement,
Of purity, to every conversation.
With James Chapter 1 I affirm:
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore, put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
And
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
So, Lord, I ask this day that You will blot out
The babble the world says is truth,
And let me bask in Your wisdom,
Seeking You first
In my thoughts,
My actions,
My decisions,
My conversations,
My writing,
And my relationships.
May I be an ambassador for Christ in all things.
In the Name of Jesus, whom I follow. Amen.
So now, with all these thoughts filling me with the grace, truth, knowledge, and worship of our God who can bring all this diversity of thought together in a cohesive message for the day, I begin writing, prepare for the memoir class I’ll teach today, and start a new week. And, I’ll celebrate the opportunity I had yesterday to tour our new church building. Hopefully we’ll see it completed so we can celebrate Easter Sunday there. God is so good, and I am thankful I can build my day in His strength. Amen to that!
