A memoir is a “slice of life” piece about an experience you’ve had with a family member or acquaintance. It is basically a character sketch showing your relationship and your interest in preserving the memory for others to read.
I will offer a writing seminar class, to meet once a month, to share your writing story.
We will meet generally once a month, email our pieces to each other in Times New Roman, double-spaced format, with line numbers and page numbers inserted so we can literally “all be on the same page” as we read them together.
Send the piece in PDF format.
The pieces should be sent several days before the meeting date to give members of the group time to read and proofread them.
Comments should be positive and encouraging in content so that the pieces will be the best they can be.
Suggested meeting day will be Third Tuesday , 1:00-3:00 using Zoom. I will set up the meetings and send you sign in information. You should have a quiet place to set up your computere for this face-to-face time.
Requirements:
You must have a computer and printer and must be able to sign in to Zoom. You don’t need to have a camera, although it’s a good thing. You can sign in using phone only.
You must commit to writing a piece you’d like to publish, if only for family members. Memoirs make great eulogies to celebrate loved ones at memorial services, or can be printed in anthologies. I can teach you how to do this. They are also great to pass on to others as gifts or legacies. Eventually, you may even write a book such as some of mine.
You must have at least five pages to critique each month.
You must be willing to share your email address so others can receive your pieces and you can send yours to other members of the group.
You cannot use profanity or exotic material in this group.
The focus will be on discussing each person’s work only. Limited conversation or rabbit trails!
Print and fill out the following form and send it to:
